Two years ago, when we launched prototypes of home parcel lockers to quickly solve the problem of waiting for couriers, we began gathering feedback from test customers on what our first commercial product should look like. Thanks to our enthusiastic test group, we were able to bring parcel lockers—evolved from those prototypes—to market. That same smart parcel locker is now helping parcel recipients in front of hundreds of homes across three different countries. But the time has come to design the second-generation product!
In this regard, it is extremely important for us to know how satisfied the hundreds of users who have used the home parcel locker so far have been, and what we should keep in mind when developing a new product. So, we sent out a survey to smart mailbox owners, and we’ve come away with quite a few new ideas!
Take a look at the ideas from the Picapac community.
Most Picapac users were motivated to order our product because of its open-source nature
One of the advantages of a home parcel locker is its open-access design—virtually all courier companies, and if necessary, a neighbor, friend, or delivery person, can access this smart device. This means that all three compartments are unlocked when they are not currently holding any parcels. After placing a package in a compartment, simply snap the lid shut, and the package will wait safely in the weatherproof compartment until the owner arrives.
Furthermore, the Picapac home parcel locker does not require a separate app, as everything is handled via SMS (notifications of parcel arrivals, remote opening, changing the PIN code, etc.). This feature has also been well-received by both users and couriers.
In addition to an open design, respondents also valued attractive aesthetics and innovation that make everyday tasks easier. For one respondent, even a copy of *Kroonika* that had gotten wet in the old mailbox was enough of a motivator to swap it out for a smarter model!
More than half of smart mailbox users have already noticed significant time savings
When examining changes in their daily lives and ordering routines following the installation of a private parcel locker, many users noted that they now truly have more time on their hands. They also order more from online stores, and in doing so, they no longer have to coordinate with a courier, plan their time around deliveries, or generally worry about whether their orders will arrive on time.
Small victories have also been noted. For example, in rural areas, the landscaping has remained neater in many cases, as couriers no longer need to drive their vans right up to the house but can instead drop off packages at a private parcel locker right at the end of the road. Thanks to this solution at the front gate, many owners of home parcel lockers no longer have to keep their dogs locked up when the courier arrives. We also received praise from business customers—clients can pick up their packages at any time and don’t have to plan their schedules around the branch’s opening hours.
95% of respondents would recommend a home delivery locker to a friend
Responses to product-specific rating questions were consistently “Like” or “Really like,” which is excellent feedback for us as a relatively new company and product. Respondents also constructively highlighted exciting areas for development that we can add to the home parcel locker’s current features. What was particularly significant for us was the fact that 95% of home parcel locker users would recommend the Picapac product to a friend!
So, we promise that development won’t stop, and by the end of the year, the first-generation home delivery kiosk will be even smarter!
