In February, we began a partnership with Omniva, as a result of which packages from Picapac parcel locker owners are automatically routed via Omniva’s services to the parcel locker located at their front door—and at the parcel locker’s standard rate! Very soon, packages that were previously routed to the nearest post office—such as those from AliExpress, which would otherwise have been delivered to a post office—will also arrive at the package locker.
Before the pilot program, only packages ordered via courier service were delivered to the package lockers; however, since the price difference between courier service and package locker service is sometimes as much as double, customers often ordered packages through the more affordable channel—the package lockers.
The goal of the pilot is to test a new value proposition that would allow customers to have a significantly larger number of packages delivered to their personal parcel locker at the same price as the parcel locker service.
The first pilot began in February, and the service has been tested at 100 parcel lockers in the Pirita and Viimsi areas. Since the pilot has been very successful, we will be expanding the service to the entire Picapac network of personal parcel lockers across Estonia in the coming weeks.
Customers have responded very positively to this new approach, and we, too, are very pleased that, in partnership with Omniva, we are able to bring our original vision to life—ensuring that packages reach Picapac parcel lockers not only conveniently but also as affordably and quickly as possible.
Today’s pilot program is particularly useful for people living outside the city, who don’t always have package lockers along their route home and for whom traveling to a package locker involves a significant additional cost. Now they can have packages delivered directly to their doorstep at an even more affordable rate.
The solution works very simply: to use the service, select “1st preference/Picapac personal package locker” as the delivery option when ordering packages from an online store. This delivery option is already available at most online stores across Estonia, and the package will be delivered to the customer’s smart mailbox at the parcel locker rate instead of the current delivery fee.
